Challenges

The Venetian Expo Center, formerly known as the Sands Expo and Convention Center, is one of the largest and most prominent convention facilities in Las Vegas.  Originally built in 1990 it has been retrofitted many times over the years and has built in challenges that needed to be considered before we could begin the execution of the design. After initial conversations with the client, we prioritized seating capacity, camera angles, and sightlines for the VIP section.

Process

Shown above are some early sketches I produced of what would become the final design.  The key change here was adding return LED walls to all of the structures giving it a more massive and architectural appearance to the audience.  We use translucent vanish screens in the scenic pockets which offer a place for our IMAG and content screens to empty into.  The overall impression in person was of a building façade.  My instincts with LED panels are always to make them look as dynamic in camera as possible and have volume in their form rather than being flat two-dimensional TV screens.
